BANGALORE: They are young, talented, full of energy, love Indian culture, but above all they are back in India — this time to cheer the teams at the ongoing Champions Trophy. The White Mischief girls with a squad of 36 new members arrived in Bangalore last week from South Africa. So what's new this time? The cheerleaders have practised even harder than they did the last time they performed at the IPL T-20. With new faces, the squad is pumped up for this season of cricket.Says Denise Schoeman, the head of the squad, for whom it’s the third time now in India, “We had auditions in South Africa and picked up 36 girls. Most of them are part time or full time dancers and university students who are passionate about dancing. The squad has had a rigorous dance practice, and a fitness regime was followed before we arrived in India. We all have one thing in common — we are full of energy, talent and absolutely love dancing.” She adds that being a cheerleader is not all that easy either, “Like any other profession, immense hard work is needed. You need to have a passion, high energy, and spontaneity to perform in front of a live audience.” Denise also feels that India is a much celebrated country and being here is a different experience altogether.“We absolutely love Indian culture. The colours, the food, the festivities, traditions and people — everything mesmerises us. This is my third time here and I have always gone back with different memories. For many girls this is the first time in India but they are absolutely having fun.” As cricket mania continues to grip the entire nation, with favourite teams and players being supported by cricket enthusiasts, these girls too have their favourites. Says Denise, “Yes all of us have favourites, but too many to point out. We love being a part of the game.”
