New Delhi: Former telecom minister A Raja on Friday accused the CBI of creating false witness of his former additional personal secretary Aseervatham Achary in the 2G spectrum scam.
"Achary is a planted witness and what happened yesterday was one big drama," said Raja's lawyer Sushil Kumar.
Kumar referred to Thursday's incident when Achary cried in the court saying someone trying to kill him and has been tailing him. The man who allegedly threatened Achary has been nabbed by the Delhi Police in court premises and produced before special CBI Judge OP Saini. Justice Saini allowed the police to interrogate the person, who has been identified as Jayprakash.
Refering to Achary's statement that Jayprakash was sitting next to RK Chandolia in the court, Raja's lawyer further said that the CBI wants to send Chandolia back to jail.
The trial court told Achary, "If you had told the court earlier about the threats you've been receiving, many of the accused wouldn't have got bail."
Raja had posed several questions to Achary ranging from his conversation with former corporate lobbyist Nira Radia to frequently changing his residence and mobile numbers.
After a month of protest against commencement of trial, Raja on Thursday opened his defence with the cross-examination of key CBI witness Achary, but it was disrupted for a while after Achary told the judge about threat to his life from a man sitting in the courtroom. Following which, Jayprakash was apprehended by the Delhi Police.
