SANDUR (Bellary): In an early morning surprise swoop, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials conducted raids on the South West Mining Company in Toranagal and the residence of company CEO Vinod Navel on the alleged kickbacks to trusts owned by the kin of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.Seven CBI officials comprising inspectors from Bangalore simultaneously carried out the raids. Official commenced the searches around 7 am which lasted till noon. They verified various documents relating to the bribe paid to Prerana Trust. However, no information was available on the documents seized in the company as well as in the CEO’s house.The company had allegedly paid Rs 20 crore to Prerana Trust owned by Yeddyurappa’s kin in exchange for sanctioning mining leases. The raid came in the wake of the CBI registering a First Information Report against Yeddyurappa as per the apex court’s directive to probe the alleged undue favours to mining companies by him when he was CM.
