CBI is treating me unequally: Shahid Balwa
The agency should have treated him and the Tata official equally, Shahid Balwa said.

New Delhi: Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, in Tihar jail since his arrest in 2G scam case, on Wednesday accused CBI of adopting double standards by not taking coercive steps against other firms including Tata Teleservices Ltd.

"CBI is treating me (Balwa) unequally. Was Tata (Teleservices Ltd) not sailing in the same boat? If CBI has not touched Tata, then it should not have touched me too," Majid Memon, Mumbai-based lawyer of Balwa, told Special Judge OP Saini.

Why CBI was not "touching" Tata Teleservices Ltd despite the fact that one of the senior officials of the firm had told the agency that they were preparing for the necessary documents when their application for UAS licences was pending with the DoT, Memon argued.

The agency should have treated him and the Tata official equally, he said referring to the statement of Rakesh Mehrotra, the then Chief Corporate Regulatory Officer of the Tata Teleservices Ltd.
