Mumbai: Three bullets, which were removed from the body of BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan during the post-mortem on Wednesday evening, have been sent to the forensic laboratory at Kalina, Santa Cruz.
A senior police officer on Thursday said that the bullets were sent to the laboratory for a chemical analysis. The tests would ascertain if they were fired from the same revolver, which was allegedly used by Mahajan's younger brother to shoot him.
The BJP leader died twelve days after battling for life at the PD Hinduja Hospital.
Pravin, who had used the .32 calibre Browning revolver, had surrendered before Worli police soon after grievously injuring his elder brother. On Wednesday, he was remanded to judicial custody by a local court.
Pravin, who was charged with attempt to murder (Section 307 IPC), will now be charged with murder under section 302.
The doctors have also taken samples of all the organs, including kidney, lung and liver, of Mahajan's body for microscopic pathalogy test, he said.
The microscopic pathalogy test would be conducted at the government-run J J Hospital. It will take 10 to 15 days for the final reports to conclusively point out the cause of death, the officer added.
