Thiruvananthapuram: In its first major breakthrough in the Kerala child trafficking racket, the Crime Branch has arrested middle man Shakeel for involvement in the racket.
Shakeel has been named by many children and parents as the person behind bringing them to Kerala. According to the parents and children, he told them that the school in Kerala provides better quality education and took Rs 1,500 from parents for each child.
The crime branch has arrested him under Section 370(5) of IPC, which amounts to trafficking of children. Many parents said that they had given only the Aadhar card and Rs 1,500 to Shakeel and he had promised to create the affidavit and necessary documents.
The arrest comes at a time when the Kerala High Court severely criticised the state government on Thursday saying its actions were unsatisfactory. High Court had asked for a status check on the repatriation of the children and told the government to
