Bramhani Industries Limited, a subsidiary of Obulapuram Mining Company of former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, filed a petition in the High Court here on Tuesday challenging the state government's decision to terminate the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with it on setting up an integrated steel plant at Jammalamadugu in Kadapa district and for withdrawing the incentives granted to the company.
Janaradhan Reddy is currently lodged in a Bengaluru prison in connection with another illegal mining case in that state.
The company, in its petition, requested the court to declare the Andhra Pradesh government's decision to cancel the MoU as illegal. It also wanted the withdrawal of earlier GOs meant for supply of 2 tmcft of water from the Gandikota reservoir to the proposed plant and release of 0.059 tmcft water from the dead storage of the reservoir to meet construction works of the integrated steel plant be declared as illegal. It further wanted the court to set aside the GOs relating to cancellation of the MoU and to issue a direction to the government to restore all the incentives and amenities granted vide the earlier GOs.
