Suspected extremists on Wednesday planted a timer-fitted bomb at a petrol pump owned by an AJSU party leader in Simdega district, but its timely detection saved the day, the police said in Simdega.
The bomb was planted near the petrol tank of the pump at Chhegaribandha Village near NH-143, Superintendent of Police A V Minz told reporters. An employee of the petrol pump alerted the police, he added. A bomb disposal squad from Ranchi rushed to the spot who defused the explosive, he said, adding it must be the handiwork of some extremist group.
When contacted, the AJSU party's general secretary, Tileswar Sahu, who is the owner of the petrol pump, said he suspected involvement of ultras belonging to the People's Liberation Front of India.
