New Delhi: A bomb placed on a bicycle exploded in a market place in Assam, wounding 13 people.

The United Liberation Font of Asom (ULFA) is held responsible for the powerful explosion that took place in a market place in the Bongaigaon district of Assam, about 150 km west of Guwahati. The bomb was kept on a bicycle at the Paglathan Bazaar.

The PTD is a programmable time interval device that has a plurality of switches or buttons to set the alarm interval. Each button corresponds to a different time interval setting.

In this manner, the alarm is simply programmable by actuating a single button corresponding to the desired interval.

The bomb went off at 0930 hrs, IST, a busy time for transaction between the shoppers and the shopkeepers. The bomb caused a mighty explosion, followed by complete chaos. The shopkeepers pulled down their shutters and people ran for shelter and aid.

The injured were rushed to the hospital where it was stated that the condition of three people in the blast was critical. The market area has been cordoned off with the military stationed around the Paglathan Bazaar to guard it.

The ULFA has set up bombs in the recent weeks, targeting the Hindi-speaking civilians.

Earlier, on Friday a blast took place at the Fancy Bazaar in Guwahati. Five people were injured in the blast. The ULFA defends itself by stating that it is fighting for the independence of Assam from the center.

A terror attack was averted on Sunday, when a bomb containing one kg of RDX was recovered near the fish market of Johar district.
