CHENNAI: A major fire, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit in the refrigerator, destroyed household goods at a television actor’s house at Thirumangalam on Sunday. Police ruled it as accidental fire. On Sunday, around 3 pm, thick smoke was seen billowing out of the windows of Rajaguru’s house on 11th Street in NVN Nagar, police sources told Express. The 50-year-old actor, who has appeared in several TV serials and films, was away in Karaikudi for a shoot, while his wife Selvi and two daughters had gone to visit his brother at Ramavaram. After neighbours alerted fire services, firemen from JJ Nagar station arrived at the spot and put out the flames. Household and electronic goods were destroyed in the fire. The actor claimed that gold ornaments weighing 55 sovereigns and silver articles were destroyed in the blaze. However, the loss estimated by the fire services is considerably less, police sources said. There was also no trace of gold jewels at the spot, they added.
