BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik faced demonstrations from workers of Opposition parties at two places in the State while campaigning for party candidates for the panchayat polls. BJP activists staged a demonstration at the Khandagiri square at Bhubaneswar while the Chief Minister was on way to attend an election meeting at Tomando on the outskirts of the city. Naveen campaigned for the party candidates at Tomando and Patrapara. While BJP claimed that eggs and tomatoes were thrown at the Chief Minister’s vehicle, police denied there was any such incident. Police chased the demonstrators away before the Chief Minister vehicle passed on that route. Youth Congress activists staged a demonstration while Naveen was addressing an election meeting at Joradubura in Karlamunda block of Kalahandi district. About 30 to 40 activists wanted to enter the meeting area shouting slogans and holdings flags. However, police chased the Youth Congress activists away. Campaigning for the Panchayat polls reached a frenzy as the polling date approached. The two principal parties, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters before the first phase poll on February 11. The Chief Minister launched his election campaign in the KBK region (undivided Koraput, Balangir and Kalahandi districts) from Kalahandi district on Sunday where he addressed five meetings. Naveen addressed election meetings at Joradubura in Karlamunda block, Sanacheragaon in Golamunda block, Ranmal in Jaypatna block, Dharmagarh and Thuamul Rampur. Naveen will campaign in Koraput district on Monday and in Malkangiri district on Tuesday. Former Union minister and Odisha in-charge Jagdish Tytler will reach here on Monday to campaign for the party candidates along with president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Niranjan Patnaik. Niranjan will campaign in Jajpur district on Monday. Tytler and he will address election meetings at different places in Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts on February 7, 8 and 9.
