BANGALORE: While there is still time for the next Assembly elections in Karnataka, it looks like Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) has started to pull up its socks. Having 28 Assembly constituencies in Bangalore, the state BJP is conducting a two-day workshop for councillors of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). This session will give tips to councillors on how to improve their wards.According to Jayanagar MLA Vijaykumar, the programme is not a training session, but a grooming session for councillors which suggests measures on how to improve their performance for the welfare of their wards. Vijaykumar said they will also consider councillors’ opinion.Around 108 councillors took part in the workshop. Also, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, BJP State President K S Eshwarappa, MP Ananth Kumar were part of this programme. “Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, Ministers Ashok, Suresh Kumar and Sommanna are expected to address the councillors. On Saturday, all the BJP MLAs in Bangalore will attend the workshop,” Vijay Kumar said.According to sources, this is the first time that BJP has organised such a workshop for its councillors. “Its been almost two years since BJP came into ruling with majority in the BBMP. What was the need to organise a workshop now? This is organised at the backdrop of assembly election. Though the state government’s term will end in May 2013, the election notification will be issued in February, this year. So with one year’s time in hand, the BJP is gearing up. BJP councillors are told to work towards improvement of their wards, which will help them in winning the assembly constituencies in Bangalore,” sources said. The two-day workshop began on Friday and took place at Ramee Guestline Hotel on Hosur Road.
