BJP plans to highlight the lack of basic infrastructure like drinking water supply and sanitation in slum clusters in the posh Lutyen's Zone which falls under New Delhi Assembly constituency.
BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan, on Sunday, visited two slum clusters on the backyard of Race Course Road and Aurangzeb Road and highlighted the "deplorable conditions" prevailing in the vicinity of VVIP residences.
"We have seen the most poor conditions prevailing in the slums. Somebody has to own up for the situation. These areas are just nearby the Prime Minister's residence and the government of the day must own the responsibility for the poor condition and lack of basic facilities in these slum clusters," Vardhan said.
He also took a potshot at Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, asking why her government could not provide basic facilities like sanitation and water supply to the residents of these areas.
The residents of the clusters complained about problems of drinking water and toilets as the most pressing ones when Vardhan paid a visit to the area.
Quoting a resident of BR Camp, Vardhan said water was not fit for drinking and caused stomach ailments.
In the slum cluster on Aurangzeb Lane, there are only two toilets for the 800-odd residents living there, he added.
The area falls under New Delhi Assembly constituency which is represented by Dikshit.
