Passengers on board IC-168 from Mumbai to Delhi were in for a nightmare.

New Delhi: Passengers aboard a Delhi-bound Indian Airlines flight from Mumbai were in for a harrowing time on Thursday when they made to change three planes after the first developed a technical snag and the door of the second refused to shut.

IC-168 had 142 passengers on board who waited at Mumbai airport, changing flights from 1630 hrs IST and landing in Delhi only at 2300 hrs.

HOW IT STARTED

The flight took off from Mumbai for Delhi at 1700 hrs, only to return to the Mumbai airport 15 minutes later, after it suffered a bird hit.

This was just the beginning of a nightmare for the passengers on board. The passengers were transferred to another aircraft and when it was set for departure, a catering vehicle hit the plane door while aligning with the aircraft.

“After 30 minutes they took us to another plane. We waited for more than an hour in that plane, they said the catering person had broken the door of the plane. We were finally shifted to another plane,” says a passenger.

The plane finally took off at 9pm, four hours after the scheduled time of departure.

The incident raises several questions about the safety management at the Mumbai airport. Just three days ago, another Indian Airlines flight had hit an overbridge while taxiing. While no one was injured, the aircraft door was severely damaged.
