Arrah: The sister of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA from Bhojpur district Saroj Yadav, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday which she had sustained while resisting a group of molesters in Arrah.
Yadav's sister Shaili Devi was returning to her native place in Barhara from Keshavpur village in Bhojpur district where she had gone for treatment on Monday night when she was molested by some youths in a shared auto-rickshaw in Arrah district, said DSP Sadar Sanjay Kumar.
She was beaten up with iron rod and thrown out of the auto-rickshaw after she resisted their move. Some villagers spotted her and rushed her to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in a critical condition.
She died on Tuesday during treatment, PMCH Principal Dr SN Sinha said.
An FIR was lodged with Chandi police station in Bhojpur district in this regard. All the accused surrendered before the Arrah court on Wednesday.
The RJD MLA came down heavily on the police and criticised the coalition government headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying, "When the sister of an MLA is not safe, how will the common man feel themselves safe?"
