Bhopal: The June 17 Bhopal gangrape case has taken a new twist with the victim now saying that she has not identified anyone.
The story narrated by the victim is quite different from the police’s version.
She says she is a bar dancer and the man with whom she had come to Bhopal is not her husband as claimed by the police.
“I was a bar dancer in Mumbai and started going to the orchestra when the bar closed down. I met Promod Singh over there and he asked me to accompany him to Bhopal after promising me Rs 20,000,” says the victim.
Earlier the police version was that both Promod and the girl were abducted by three people in a black Innova and then she was repeatedly raped inside the car as it drove along the highway.
Police officials also claimed they had apprehended one of the rapists - Satinder Singh alias Suttu - and the girl had identified him. But the girl denies all this.
“I have not identified any Sattu for the rape. Bhopal Police never came to talk to me in Mumbai,” the victim claims.
Embarrassed police officials now admit that they were taken for a ride by Promod and that he could be one of the culprits.
“Promod Singh is absconding. His role is also under suspicion and we are looking for him,” says SP Bhopal, Jaideep Prasad.
