BALANGIR: A youth of Balangir town has reportedly died of dengue at a private nursing home in Burla on Monday. Although the district health officials are yet to confirm the report, they admitted that the blood sample of the patient tested positive for dengue. The deceased has been identified as Dipti Prakash Rai (35). He had initially consulted a doctor at Police Hospital T K Palit for severe muscle pain and headache. Palit said all tests, including malaria, were negative and he was asked to undergo test for dengue.  “He had all the symptoms of dengue. Normally, the platelet count of a person should be more than a lakh but Rai’s count was just 45,000,” Palit said.  Following the death, the health officials here have sounded an alert.  CDMO Brikant Kindo said that he had a discussion with the District Collector on measures to tackle the situation. “We have asked the doctors to collect blood samples of the relatives of the deceased,” said the CDMO. There was nothing to panic as it is yet to be ascertained whether dengue originated in  Balangir, he added.
