CHENNAI: Shiromani Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal who is all set to take over as Chief Minister of Punjab for the fifth time on March 14, invited Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary J Jayalalithaa for his swearing-in ceremony.Since she is preoccupied with campaign for by-election to Sankaran Kovil Assembly constituency on the same day, Jayalalithaa is sending two senior functionaries of the party for the swearing-in ceremony. Badal spoke to Jayalalithaa over telephone and invited her. The AIADMK supremo said though she was eager to attend, she had already agreed to campaign for her party candidate on March 14 in Sankaran Kovil constituency and this was announced already, as such, she was not in a position to take part in the function.However, Jayalalithaa told Badal that on her behalf and on behalf of the AIADMK, she would send senior MPs of the party, M Thambidurai and V Maithreyan, to the ceremony.On March 6, Jayalalithaa congratulated Badal and Samajwadi party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav for their victories in the current Assembly elections in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh respectively.The Shiromani Akali Dal- BJP secured 68 seats out of 117 in Punjab Assembly polls.
