In his last movie 'Ek Deewana Tha', Prateik played the role of a love-struck obstinate Romeo. In 'Issaq', his upcoming film, the actor will once again be seen being smitten by newbie Amyra Dastur. But the actor insists, his role in 'Issaq', which has been referred to as the contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet', isn't just about playing the regular romantic hero. "There is a lot more to the film and my role than just pure romance. It has elements of violence, comedy, drama and action. So it isn't only a romantic film. Also, the film just happened to me. It wasn't a conscious decision to do, as many would term, another romantic film. This is also not to suggest that I dislike the genre."
As Prateik recollects, the experience of shooting in the city of Banaras, which has emerged as the most significant element in Hindi films, was spiritually enlightening and enriching. "Banaras is home to captivating ghats, beautiful bylanes, vivid and cultural sights, rituals and religious practices. The sense of calm and serenity which Banaras exudes can't be ignored. The experience in Banaras was such that it made me spiritually aware. It had more to do with staying connected with God. I have to admit that this connect has been both beautiful and grown stronger."
While everyone has been raving about Dhanush's oh-so-real portrayal of a Banaras boy in 'Raanjhanaa', Prateik tells us he hasn't watched the film yet. So the star kid isn't aware of Dhanush's role, which helped the actor receive unprecedented response from both fans and celebrities. "I haven't watched 'Raanjhanaa' yet so I don't know about Dhanush's portrayal. I have just managed to watch a bit of 'Ishaqzaade', but that's more of UP and has nothing to do with Banaras. All I can say is that I haven't watched any film to do justice to my role in 'Issaq'. Instead, what you'll see is my interpretation of the character. And I have given my best, thanks to Manish Tiwary."
Having worked with superstar Aamir Khan and his director wife Kiran Rao, Prateik has understood how crucial their perspective is. That's precisely why he made headlines recently for wanting the star couple to give their feedback on 'Issaq' before its release. "Kiran and Aamir Khan hold a special place in my life. Since I have worked with them, I feel like their baby. So their opinion carries a lot of importance. If I ever have to discuss my scripts or taken someone's suggestion before I sign a film, I seek Kiran and Prakash Jha's opinion."
Even though his role in 'Issaq' appears interesting, Prateik says Ranbir Kapoor's character in 'Rockstar' - a middle-class boy who leaves no stone unturned in becoming a great musician - is what he would love to play. Whether it was the struggle, the angst, or the violent flare-ups, every aspect made the role endearing to Praetik. "I think the character was both challenging and different. It is a role which is well etched out, and can give one both personal and creative satisfaction. If something similar ever comes up, I'd grab it."
The star kid, who maintains 'no comments' stance when asked if any actress comes close to his mother in terms of acting prowess, is quick to give his list of favourite stars. "When it comes to actors, it ought to be Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher." How about his father Raj Babbar? "Yes, he tops the list," pat comes the reply.
Even though he is born to a family where politics has been an integral part (grandfather Shivajirao Patil leader of Indian National Congress party and a former chief minister of Maharashtra, and father Raj Babbar is Congress leader), Prateik is firm about his decision to stick to Bollywood. "Yes it is true that politics run in my family. But I wouldn't like to get into it. For, I haven't explored the domain. By God's grace I have made one step into the film industry. But I still need to prove myself. I have immense respect for our politicians, but now, it is all about being the best entertainer."
