TIRUPATI: Sri Venkateswara Ayurvedic College, a TTD run educational institution, is unlikely to resume PG course admissions this academic year as the Department of Ayush has refused to give permission in this regard even after provision of additional facilities as directed by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM).
Six PG courses were introduced by the college in 2009 after a long struggle by students of the region.A CCIM team which inspected the college in April this year, pointed out that the hospital attached to the college did not have enough bed strength, which is a prerequisite to offer three clinical PG courses, including Salya, Balaroga and Panchakarma and nonclinical course of Siddhantha.

The TTDrun college was asked to improve the facilities and submit a report to it before October 31 for considering resumption of PG admissions.

AYUSH had also refused to reconsider its decision of withholding PG admissions for want of adequate medical infrastructure. A TTD official on condition of anonymity confirmed that AYUSH rejected the request of the college for resumption of PG admissions this year.

With AYUSH refusing to reconsider its decision even after improving the facilities, the stalemate on resumption of PG admissions continues.

Talking to Express Eswar said he qualified in the entrance test conducted by the NTR University of Health Sciences for PG Ayurveda courses. Counselling for the courses has not been held as AYUSH refused to give permission to the college to resume PG admissions.
