Aviation Ministery sends out fog alert to airlines
Met Department warns fog will hit Delhi between December 5 and February 15.

New Delhi: The Meteorological Department has predicted that fog will hit Delhi between December 5 and February 15.

In this period, there will be 150 hours of zero visibility, when no flights will be allowed to take off.

The Civil Aviation Ministry says airlines which don't meet the category 3 B landing system requirement will lose their winter flying slots.

Category 3 B system helps aircraft land even when the visibility is about 50 metres. Indian, Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways are category 3 compliant.

Among those three airlines, Indian has the largest number of category 3 trained pilots and category 3 complaint aircraft.

Despite several warnings most private airlines have been slow in implementing it citing high costs and time to train their pilots.
