The United Kingdom-India Legal Partnership (UKILP) awarded Additional Solicitor General S V Raju as the “Lawyer of the Year”.
ASG and Senior Advocate Mr Raju was awarded for his contribution and excellence in the legal profession. The award was presented by former Chief Justice of India and Member of Parliament Ranjan Gogoi.
Senior Advocate Suryaprakash V Raju practising at the Gujarat High Court was appointed Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India of the Supreme Court in 2020 and was re-appointed to the post in 2023.
Raju has handled some of the most high-profile cases in the state. He represented Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin encounter case. Shah was subsequently discharged in the case. Raju has also represented several accused policemen in the encounter case.
He has also handled the money laundering case filed against Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and various others regarding the kickbacks received from the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy.
Apart from Mr Raju, two lawyers of Madras High Court — senior advocate Abdul Saleem and advocate S Elambharathi — were also conferred with awards for excellence in the UK-India legal corridor.
UKILP is a premier networking platform for senior lawyers from both India and the UK. The UK-India Legal Partnership (UKILP), under the leadership of London-based lawyer Ajit Mishra, hosted its annual awards ceremony in the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.
The event was graced by the president of the Law Society of England & Wales, the chair of the Bar Council of England and Wales, the additional solicitor general of India S V Raju, along with various general counsel, senior counsel, and King’s counsel.
