The Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) has intensified combing operations around the border villages of Sakleshpur taluk, following visits by the naxals to houses in the villages of Sinkeri and Balehalli, on Thursday night and Friday morning.
Sources said that six naxals, including a woman, reportedly visited the houses of Lokesh Gowda, Gowdegowda and Rajegowda of Sinkeri and Balehalli villages near Hongadahalla on Thursday night.
The villagers allegedly prepared rice and sambar and served them, following a demand by the naxals. The naxals also spent the night at the village and collected rice and chilly powder from them. The naxals were dressed casually, armed and carried bags, according to eye witnesses.
The Naxals also held discussions on current issues with the villagers. They reportedly entered Sakleshpur taluk from Dakshina Kannada district through the Western Ghats, where the Anti-Naxal Force has intensified combing operations.
Superintendent of Police Amit Singh visited Sinkeri and Balehalli on Thursday night to investigate the issue. Sources said that Anti- Naxal Force had fired 50 rounds at naxal group and latter fired two rounds at the officials who reportedly chased them near Balehalli.
Exchange of firing went on for 10 minutes near Bisale on Friday morning.
Highly placed sources said that the Anti-Naxal Force have covered the area where the naxals have been camping and they may surrender to the police at any moment. Ramachandra Rao, the inspector general of police [IGP] southern range have been camping in Balehalli to nab naxals who are reportedly hiding in the region.
