Andhra doctors call off strike
Junior doctors at Andhra Pradesh government hospitals ended their 12-day strike.

b>Visakhapatnam: Junior doctors at Andhra Pradesh government hospitals ended their 12-day strike on Monday after a court warning and the government’s appeal for talks.

The Junior Doctors’ Association informed state Health Minister K Rosaiah that the strike was over after the High Court warned doctors of contempt of court. The court had asked the association to call off the strike by April 18.

The government, after an all-party meeting on Sunday, requested doctors to end the strike and come forward for talks.

Doctors are against an order that increased the quota for in-service candidates in post-graduate courses from 15 per cent to 30 per cent. Services in state government hospitals had come to a standstill due to the strike.

Doctors are also against the government asking them to sign a three-year bond to work in its hospitals after post-graduation.
