SANGAREDDY: The Congress leadership has now focussed its attention on the deputy chief minister post which has been pending for the last six months after succesfully completing the exercise of electing the speaker and deputy speaker of the Assembly and appointing a new PCC chief. It is learnt that the party leadership will take a decision on deputy CM post in a day or two. Higher education minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, a Dalit and close to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, is the frontrunner for the post, while major industries minister J Geeta Reddy is also making last minute efforts to get the post.According to party sources, the deputy chief minister post will be given to a person from the Telangana region as chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy belongs to Rayalaseema, speaker Nadendla Manohar is from Andhra and PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana from North coastal Andhra.The party leadership is of the view to give the deputy CM post to a person from Medak district as it is the home district of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao who is spearheading the Telangana movement and also send a strong message that the Congress was not doing any injustice to Telangana region.It is learnt that Geeta Reddy’s followers were of the view that their leader would lose her grip in the district politics if Rajanarsimha is made the deputy CM. Keeping all these in view, the minister is making all out efforts for the coveted post. She left for New Delhi for lobbying.
