CHENNAI: A sewage treatment plant (STP) with a capacity to treat 20 lakh (two million) litres of sewage per day was inaugurated at Aavin Dairy Road, Ambattur SIDCO Estate on Sunday. The plant will serve nearly 750 units in the North Phase of the estate. Mohan Pyare, Chairman of TN Small Industries Development Corporation, (TANSIDCO) inaugurated the plant. The STP is intended to reduce environmental and health hazards in the industrial area and surrounding localities. This initiative is a part of the infrastructure work carried out by the Chennai Auto Ancillary Industrial Infrastructure Up-gradation Company (CAAIIUC).Pyare also inaugurated a model road at Patravakkam Railway Station Road, also in the North Phase. The road, which is used by around 50,000 users a day, has been fitted with energy saving lights sponsored by K Lite Industries. Dilip Kumbhat, Chairman of CAAIIUC, said, “Precast storm water drains have also been put in place to ease the flooding which plagues the area.”M Pandi, Senior Engineer, TN Generation and Distribution Corporation, dedicated the street lighting, while R Ramasubbu, District Environment Engineer, TN Pollution Control Board, dedicated the Sulabh Toilet Block, at Patravakkam Railway Station Road. Other members of CAAIIUC were also present at the event. Pyare also had an interaction with the estate business holders before the inauguration at the AIEMA (Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association) Technology Centre.
