THRISSUR: The governing body of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi has announced its resignation. The office-bearers will step down officially from the respective posts on June 27. Announcing the resignation at a press conference here, chairman Mukesh said the governing body members would step down after the general council meeting on June 27.Mukesh said the present governing body could energise the activities of the Akademi and took the initiative for developmental activities. The setting up of A S N Nambeesan Smaraka Vadyakalapeedam was an achievement and the library of the Akademi could be enhanced to a reference library. “For the progress of plays, a programme called ‘Nataka Ritu’ could be started and seminars on plays were organised. The activities of the Akademi were extended to villages, earlier it was confined only to town areas.” The Ammannur Nataka Award was also constituted. A garden of medicinal plants was started to make the Akademi campus eco-friendly. Mukesh said that in memory of actor and its former chairman Murali, a drama research centre was installed at Kudavathur. Its inauguration will be held on August 6.The construction of a memorial for actor Narendra Prasad in Mavelikkara will be completed soon, he said. “The allegations raised against the Akademi staff are baseless, we have faith in our staff,” he said when asked about the recent allegations raised against its staff.
