New Delhi: Whenever there are glitches with flights, it is the international passengers who are hit harder than most.
That holds true for the 200 Bangladesh nationals, who are in transit from Dhaka, and have been stuck at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport since more than two days.
They were scheduled to leave for Dubai on Saturday but were informed then that their Air India flight was postponed to Sunday evening.
Although they were issued boarding passes on Sunday and their luggage was also taken on board two hours after the scheduled time, they were once again informed that the Dubai flight was delayed.
The travellers say that no one from Air India came forward to give them an explanation for the delay.
“We went yesterday to the airline. Nobody came to tell us anything, there is no desk at the airport,” complained a passenger.
An American passenger who was to board the Dubai flight has condemned the airline’s callous attitude.
“For 24 hours, there has been no communication,” she said. “I’ve travelled for 40 years and the only other time I’ve had problems with delays like this was with Air India.”
An irate Bangladeshi passenger said, “They say three will share one room! Since three days my clothes have been on the flight. How can I share a room with anyone?”
It is not much of a surprise that India’s national carrier has a poor reputation if this is the kind of indifference they display to foreign passengers who haven’t even the option of going home while the flight delays are taken care of.
