New Delhi: A group of medicos on Wednesday laid siege to Director P Venugopal's residence over the issue of re-examination of students who had failed earlier.

On Tuesday evening, the problem started when posters surfaced on the campus declaring that some students had failed to clear re-examination conducted for the unsuccessful candidates of the final tests, even before the results were officially declared.

A group of students began the siege of the Director's residence demanding an explanation on how the results of the re-examination were leaked out.

"After the overnight vigil, we finally met the director this afternoon. They told us that the students have failed and had no plausible answers to how the posters declaring the results came up or who had put them up," PTI quoted spokesperson of the Progressive Medicos and Scientists Forum R K Prasad.

Prasad also said that they are demanding the resignation of Dean, Examination T D Dogra for allegedly leaking the information.

According to AIIMS spokesman Shakti Gupta out of the seven students, only six appeared and only one passed.

"One of the failed student is final year student, Ajay Singh, belonging to the reserved category. He was circulating disinformation that he was failed because he belongs to reserved category," Gupta said.

"The governing body had said that the examination should be held under Dean Academics, which was not done," he said.

AIIMS has been a centre of controversy ever since the Government declared its intention to introduce quotas for OBCs in 2006. It was also the hub of the 17-day anti-quota agitation.

It has been in the news for the tussle between Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss and Venugopal over the control of the premier institute.
