PUDUCHERRY: The AIADMK, on Saturday, demanded a judicial probe, by a High Court Judge, into the violence at Yanam in which two persons were killed and several injured. Agitated workers of Regency Ceramics went on a rampage yesterday after their union leader Murali Mohan was allegedly killed in police lathicharge outside the factory. They lynched the president(Operations) of the company K C Chandrasekhar. Briefing newsmen, AIADMK secretary and MLA A Anbazhagan flayed chief minister N Rangasamy for the ‘lack of control’ over the region and held him responsible for the unprecedented violence due to his ‘irresponsible‘ functioning. He alleged that there was no administrative control by the territorial government over the region, which had been surrendered to its MLA, who was calling the shots. The administration of Yanam deteriorated during the tenure of Rangasamy, during the Congress rule as well as now under the AINRC government, he said. When on the orders of Regional Administrator (IAS), one sub-inspector was suspended for a custodial death, the order was revoked and the IAS officer transferred, instead of pursing the case. Indicating that it was done on pressure from the Yanam MLA, he asked who was calling the shots in Yanam?Anbazhagan alleged that there was no democracy in Yanam as lawlessness prevailed. He added that he had raised various issues in the Legislative Assembly, including loss of revenue to government, to which the Rangasamy government had always turned a deaf ear. He demanded that government come forward to provide a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of deceased union leader and a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to each of the workers injured in the firing.
