PUDUCHERRY: AIADMK candidate Suttukeni Bhaskaran filed his nomination for the by-election in the Indira Nagar constituency here on Wednesday.Baskaran reached the labour commissioner’s office along with the party MPs, Tamil Nadu Ministers, party leader M C Sampath and Puducherry legislators - A Anbazhagan, Om Sakthi Sekar, L Periyasamy, Purushothaman. They were followed in a procession by nearly 2000 AIADMK party cadre.He offered a special pooja at the Anjaneyar Temple in Muthirapalayam before the start of the rally.Baskaran submitted his papers to the returning officer (RO)and labour commissioner Malarkannan. He was accompanied by AIADMK MP (from Tamil Nadu) Semmalai and party ministers from Tamil Nadu, C Ve Shanmugham, Agri S S Krishnamurty and Anbazhagan.Later, addressing cadre at a meeting held in a nearby marriage hall, Semmalai exhorted them to work hard and achieve the target that party general secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had set: victory in the by-election.He said AINRC chief Rangasamy has created an illusion that people were behind him. The Chief Minister had betrayed the people, who trusted him and back-stabbed members of the alliance party AIADMK. Semmalai said workers should take the by-poll as a challenge and work towards earning a victory.The by-election was necessitated as Rangasamy vacated the Indira Nagar seat after he got elected from another seat, Kadirgamam, in the April 13 assembly elections.The last date for filing nominations is September 26 and the scrutiny would take place the next day. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is September 29 and the by-election is scheduled to be held on October 13.
