CHENNAI: An insurance agent was arrested in Chromepet on Thursday for allegedly selling a fake vehicle insurance certificate.
According to police, Kannan (37), of Puroshotaman Nagar, Chromepet, was arrested for selling a fake vehicle insurance document to Paneerselvam (46) of Jameen Pallavaram. On June 8, Paneerselvam handed over `4,247 to Kannan to get his car insured with a private insurance company.

Later, the agent gave a certificate to Paneerselvam, claiming that he had paid the insurance amount in the office.

When Paneerselvam approached the insurance office to get the date changed, officials who verified the insurance number confirmed that the certificate was fake.
