Having suffered a loss in business, a 24-year-old accused identified as Mohammad Jashimuddin Sheikh, kidnapped a 9-year-old boy luring him with a cake to make quick money in Bengaluru’s electronic city. The accused then demanded a ransom money of Rs 10 lakhs from the boy’s parents if they wanted their child back home safely.
The incident occurred on June 17, Monday, when the 9-year-old was playing with his friends near his house after finishing his tuition. The accused approached the boy to come along claiming that it was his birthday, and he would get him a cake and other eatables.
The police told News18 that the accused made the boy walk for around 600 metre and then booked a Rapido to take the boy on a ride. Later, he booked two more Rapido rides waiting for the sun to set so he could abduct the child and take him to his flat in an apartment in the dark.
Both the victim and the accused were found in an electronic city apartment. The accused was also familiar to the boy.
After the victim’s father filed a complaint with the police, the police formed a team to arrest the accused.
CK Baba, DCP South-East said, “The accused tried to play smart by using two phones. He did this to ensure he could save himself from the police. But acting on the complaint, the team immediately started to search the accused and police rescued the child from the accused’s flat in an apartment. The accused was also arrested from the flat after 13 hours of the complaint.”
According to the police, Jashimuddin Sheikh was running a cloud kitchen business where he was selling customised food, but he suffered losses, and was in a bid to make quick money.
