BHUBANESWAR/JEYPORE: A wild buffalo, which strayed into Orissa and ran riot in Koraput’s Kundura block, is all set to become an inmate of Nandankanan Zoo. The animal was brought to the Zoo on Wednesday. Earlier, a team from the Zoo had travelled to Dongrapalli-Budgeri village under Kundura forest range and tranquilised the buffalo. It was then transferred to the City in a secured vehicle. The Nandankanan authorities plan to release the animal in one of its enclosures. The animal park does not have a wild buffalo as yet. Deputy Director Siba Narayan Mohapatra said the buffalo had seriously injured two villagers in Kundura and destroyed crops. It had created a scare in the locality after ramming into houses in search of food. Wild buffaloes are huge in size and hence very difficult to be tackled. This one, which is believed to have separated from its herd about 15 days back, entered Orissa from Bastar district of Chhattisgarh. Locals in Koraput had also staged an agitation before the Jeypore DFO seeking steps to drive away the wild animal.
