New Delhi: The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Lal Krishna Advani on Tuesday questioned the policy announcement made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his address to nation on the 60th Independence Day.

Advani said Singh’s address from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort barely touched on the two crucial issues of the time - terrorism and corruption.

"We in the opposition have this complaint. In the two subjects the present government has lost its credibility. And the way the policies are going on, it will be difficult to win over the two," he said after hoisting the tricolour to mark the Independence Day at his residence.

The UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, on the other hand lauded Prime Minister's speech.

"The Prime Minister has given a very inspirational and forceful speech. And he has extorted us all to work in unity for our country and that is what we all out committed to do," she said.

In his customary address to the nation on the Independence day, the Indian Prime Minister pressed Pakistan afresh to fulfill a pledge to curb cross-border militant violence, saying peace between the old rivals was not possible in the face of terrorist attacks.

Singh in his speech called for elimination of corruption in the delivery of public services in particular and all walks of life in general, while assuring a system to reward honesty, probity and efficiency in public life.

Singh also said providing long term solution to the problem of agrarian suicides in drought hit western Vidarbha region on the country was one of key focuses of his government.
