CHENNAI: World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand has exhorted students to develop the mental strength and adaptability to a newer environment in tune with the changing times. Anand, who is also the NIIT Mind Champion, shared his time honoured percepts of wisdom with young Ambassadors of NIIT, on Thursday. Addressing college students selected as Ambassadors of NIIT, Anand drew parallels from his life on how chess helped in his overall personality development by improving his perseverance, strategic thinking and communication skills.“From every game and every player, I learn something new. Develop varied interest in life, you will never know when it will be of use,” he said, recalling how calligraphy helped Steve Jobs helped him later in designing hi-tech gadgets.As part of this year’s ‘Ambassadors of NIIT’ programme, which provides college students an opportunity to develop leadership, communication and project management skills at a young age, the institute received 150 nominations out of which 38 students were selected on the basis of academic achievement, communication and feedback from their trainers.Indu, one of the Ambassadors, said: “ It was very interesting to listen to Anand and the pieces of wisdom he shared are going to be lessons for us in life.”Shuruthi, Nikhila and Avinash, the other Ambassadors of NIIT, echoed her view. Hanitha, Metro Head, NIIT, Chennai Region, who was also an Ambassador of NIIT said, “NIIT is an institution where people get a chance to grow individually and also with the organisation. This is my personal experience.”
