New Delhi: Acer has launched what it claims to be the industry's first 8-inch Windows 8 tablet. Named the Acer Iconia W3, the tablet features a 8.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, and runs Windows 8.
Unveiled at Computex 2013, the Acer Iconia W3 comes pre-installed with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013, and is priced at $379. It is powered by Intel's dual-core 1.8GHz Atom Z2760 processor.
The tablet has front- and rear-facing 2 megapixel webcams. It has a micro-HDMI port for connecting to a TV or external display.
The device pairs with an optional full-size Bluetooth keyboard that holds the tablet upright for typing and then docks to the tablet to lay flat for easy transportation. The keyboard mirrors the size of those found on 13.3-inch notebooks.
The tablet comes in two variants - 32GB and or 64GB,. Customers can expand its storage up to 32GB via a microSD. The Iconia W3 with 32GB and 64GB capacities will be available in June from retailers.
The Acer Iconia W3 was introduced at a press event at Computex along with other new products, including the Acer Aspire S7 and S3 Ultrabooks as well as the Liquid S1 phablet.
