BANGALORE: Enraged at the alleged caustic remarks made against members of the state Assembly by members of the Upper house, on the issue of constructing a mufti-storeyed vehicle parking complex in the Legislators Home (LH),  several BJP members expressed the need to  abolish  the Legislative Council itself.Raising the issue soon after the Question Hour in the Assembly on the issue, BJP member D N Jeevaraj said that the statements amount to disrespecting the House. While reading out portions of the debate which took place in the Upper house, Jeevaraj said that the MLCs, while opposing the construction of the parking complex have alleged that it would result into “conversion of the LH premises into slums”.Adding that the remarks were unwarranted and have hurt the image of the legislators, he said: “Their behaviour has brought into focus the need of existence of the Council. It should be abolished,” the BJP member asserted. However, Congress members led by Siddaramaiah and other leaders raised a protest to Jeevaraj’s statement. “If that is the case, why is the Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda opting for a backdoor into the Legislature throught the Council,” they asked.
