PIRAVOM: It was a day of frenetic activity for the candidates, leaders and party activists as the campaigning for the bypoll drew to a close on Thursday. As the last day of campaigning, the day till afternoon was utilised by all the parties to cover the missed areas and to meet as many voters as possible for a last minute reminder. ‘Kalassakottu’ was held at Piravom Town in the evening. The sound and fury of the campaigning was over by 5 pm. The mood among both UDF and LDF activists remained upbeat.Both, UDF and LDF candidates campaigned across the constituency till the last minute. UDF candidate Anoop Jacob visited Thrivankulam and Maneed. Besides visiting the places that were missed during the campaigning, he visited acquaintances across the constituency. Meanwhile, LDF candidate M J Jacob spent the day visiting friends and acquaintances across the constituency. He also visited some schools and other places that were previously missed. BJP had organised a campaign rally from Thiruvankulam covering the constituency and BJP candidate K R Rajagopal lead the rally. The rally passed through the whole constituency and ended at Piravom.The UDF had arranged meetings and campaigning by their leaders in various panchayats. MLAs Hibi Eden (Mulanthuruthy), P C Vishnunath (Thiruvankulam), Shafi Parambil (Maneed), V T Balaram (Ramamangalam), M Viju (Edakkattuvayal), P Siddique (Pamapakuda), Bindu Krishna (Thirumaradi) and KSU president V S Joy (Elanji) spoke at areas that were not covered by the senior leaders. Meanwhile, senior leaders like Ramesh Chennithala, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and Dr M K Muneer camped at Piravom and campaigned in the neighbouring areas.DYFI organized two rallies from 10:30 a.m. till 1:30 p.m. The rallies, of which one started from Thrivankulam and other from Koothattukulam, met at Piravom Asupatripadi and together entered Piravom Town and ended there. T V Rajesh inaugurated the rally at Thiruvankulam and K Rajan inaugurated the rally at Koothattukulam.Also, LDF leaders and activists carried out one-to-one campaigning across the constituency. Senior leaders like Vaikom Viswan (Pampakuda), Thomas Isaac (Piravom and Elanji), Anathalavattom Anandan (Koothattukulam) and M A Baby (Mulanthuruthy) campaigned and addressed meetings across the constituency. Squads of workers conducted house visits and requested for votes. The campaigning was almost over by 3:00 p.m.
