5th Kerala Bird Race concludes

NEDUMBASSERY: The fifth Kerala Bird Race sponsored by HSBC Bank concluded on Sunday.  In the Kochi leg of the Race, 21 teams, comprising around 95 participants, representing Kochi, Kottayam and Thrissur districts took part in the race. The teams recorded a total number of 206 species by covering seashore, wetlands, marshy areas and dense forests of the Western Ghats.The team ‘Sparrow’, led by S Prasanth assisted by Madhukrishnan, Unnikrishnan and Ajay Rajan,  was adjudged the winner with 135 species in its tally. The team led by Prasanth Narayanan of Kottayam Nature Society with a species tally of 126 won the second position. The third prize was bagged by the team led by Ginu George with the support of Jai P Jacob, K K Shine, and Noble recording 102 species.The ‘Turtle Dove’ recorded by the team ‘Golden Oriole’ led by Ratheesh from Thrissur (KUVS) was selected the Bird of the Day.
