Srinagar: Three policemen and a civilian were injured on Monday evening in a grenade explosion by separatist guerrillas in a crowded business hub of Jammu and Kashmir capital's Srinagar.
Police said guerrillas tossed a grenade at a police party in the Maisuma locality of the uptown city in the evening wounding four people, including a shopkeeper.
"The injured were shifted to a hospital," said a police officer. One of the injured policeman was said to serious.
Police fired several warning shots as security forces surrounded the area for searches.
The area, one of the prime retail business locations in the city, is usually crowded in the evening. However, due to protests earlier in the day triggered by the mysterious disappearance of a youth, there was lesser crowd in the market and surrounding areas.
Police used teargas and baton charged the stone throwing protestors.
In north Kashmir Sopore town, guerrillas fired two rifle grenades at a police station in the afternoon. However, no damage was caused.
