2009 Paul Muthoot murder case: 9 convicts sentenced to life, rigorous imprisonment for 4 others
While one of the 19 accused has been acquitted, the verdict for 5 other accused is yet to be delivered.

A special court in Kerala has sentenced 11 convicts in the 2009 Paul Muthoot murder case to life while it has pronounced rigorous imprisonment for 4 other convicts. Earlier in the day, the Kerala court had convicted 13 accused in the murder case of Muthoot Group Chairman Muthoot M George's son Paul Muthoot.

There are a total of 18 accused in the case of which 17 are found guilty. The prosecution has filed the case in two charge sheets - one for the murder of Paul George and other conspiracy and for doing another quotation work. The prosecution case is that a gang led by gangster Sathish Kumar alias Kari Satish who murdered Paul M George following an altercation over a road accident. Kari Sathish is included as the second accused in the case.

Paul George, one of the executive directors of Muthoot Group was killed under mysterious circumstances on August 21, 2009 when he was on his way to his native place Pathanamthitta. He was killed at Ponga near Nedumudy.

According to the police, Paul aged 32 at the time of his death, was on his way to a resort owned by the group at Champakulam, when a group of persons on a Tempo Traveller intercepted his vehicle around 1.30 am and attacked him.

Manu, who was with him in the car, also got injured during the attack and was admitted to a hospital.

Paul’s driver, who was travelling behind them in another vehicle, rushed Paul and Manu to the hospital and also reported the incident to the police. However, Paul had died on the spot itself.
