2 members of robber gang caught

HYDERABAD: Two members, including a 60 year old woman of a gang of bag lifters were arrested by police on Sunday. The gang members travel in city buses and steal valuables from bags of passengers.
According to deputy commissioner of police, detective department J Satyanarayana, the gang is led by Nagaraju of Afzalsagar and his gang comprises of family members including women. The gang consists of Nagaraju's sisters, 60yearold Nirmala alias Manger Nirmala, 50yearold Harini, his niece Laxmi alias Jakira, Sridevi alias Shakira and Syed Anwar, the husband of Jakira and others. Some of them reside in Bidar while others reside in government housing complex for weaker sections in Mangar Basti of Afzalsagar."Nagaraju and Anwar drop the women at bus stops. After identifying their target, the women board the bus while Nagaraju and Anwar follow them in an auto. The woman cover themselves with a burqa or shawl. They generally carry untidy children and sit near their target. Once the target passenger removes his sight from his baggage irritated by the children, the women cover the bag with their burqa or shawl and take away valuables like ornaments, cash and mobile phones,'' Satyanarayana said. Once they get hand on valuables, they get down at the next stop and get into the auto. "If any gang member is caught, Nagaraju intervenes in the issue acting as a politician or local person to protect them from the public," the DCP said.
