BATLAGUNDU: Burglars struck at a house in front of a police station and looted 124 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 35,000 in cash, at Pattiveeranpatti, near here, on Tuesday night.According to police, the incident took place in the house of an estate owner at Pattiveeranpatti near Batlagundu in Dindigul district.Selvaraj (64), the estate owner, and his wife Renuka were sleeping at their house on Tuesday night when the theft was committed. The burglars had gained entry to the house by breaking open the rear door. After entering the house, they had broke the safe and decamped with 124 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs 35,000 in cash.In the morning, the couple were shocked to find that their house had been burgled. On information, Pattiveeranpatti Police rushed to the spot and conducted preliminary investigations. Later, forensic experts visited the scene of crime and lifted finger prints.A case has been registered and investigations are on. `10Lakh Worth Jewels Stolen in NagercoilUnidentified persons decamped with 60 sovereigns of gold jewellery ( worth around Rs 10 lakh) from a house at Aralvoimozhi near Nagercoil on Wednesday.Police said, Royal Yesurathinarao, residing at Kirubai Nagar, near Mission Compound in Aralvoimozhy, was a retired tea estate manager. He was living with his wife Ramani. Meanwhile, on June 2, Yesurathinarao along with his wife had gone to Chennai. Yesurathinarao asked his neighbour to water the plants in his house.On Wednesday, when the neighbour went to water the plants at Yesurathinarao’s house, he found the lights in the bedroom on but the front door was locked. He also found the back doors broken open. He informed the Aralvoimozhy police who reached the spot.
