CHENNAI: The 100th anniversary of drama artist T K Shanmugam was celebrated at Raja Annamalai Mandram on Thursday, organised by his son T K S Kalaivanan.On this occasion Justice Jegathesan, Madras High Court, said, “T K Shanmugam didn’t consider his work as a job but as a service to society, conveying a lot of information on national integration. He was dedicated to Tamil drama welfare. People receiving the award in Shanmugam’s name are being given this in recognition of their dedication to drama. His work on his first drama Katharin Vetri is an unforgettable work written with the true spirit of love for his nation.”Actor Radha Ravi said, “Nowadays many artists don’t know how the real drama will transform into action.” Kumari Ananthan, member of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, unveiled a portrait of Shanmugam in the dress of Avvaiyar. On the occasion 100 drama artists were given awards like Nadaka Selvam, Tamilpani Selvam and Narpani Selvam. Justice A R Lakshmanan, who released the 100th anniversary book on Avvai T K Shanmugam, said that Shanmugam was not only an actor but also a good teacher.All those who assembled passed a resolution to approach Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa with three petitions; for the release of a stamp bearing Shanmugam’s picture, for a memorial hall in his name and for a statue of him in Chennai.
