Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have shot dead 10 top commanders of various terrorist groups operating in the Jammu division of the state since January this year.
"We have mounted pressure on militants and achieved major success against the terrorist outfits in Jammu division," Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) Ashok Gupta told reporters.
"As part of our continuing campaign against terrorists, we have killed 10 of them since January 2010," he added.
"They were commanders of Harkat-ul-Jehhadi Islami, Hizb-ul-Mujahadeen and Jaish-e-Mohammad," Gupta said.
Gupta also claimed that there was a complete synergy between various wings of the security agencies. "It is because of this coordination that we have been able to successfully neutralise militants."
About 150 terrorists are active in the region.
"We are alert and our men and officers are working to neutralise all these terrorists or force them to surrender," Gupta added.
