During the match against Sri Lanka, the Pakistan cricket team were cheered and supported by the fans present in Hyderabad on multiple occasions. Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, who produced a terrific unbeaten knock of 131, was in love with the atmosphere at the venue. Rizwan even revealed that during the game against Sri Lanka, he felt like playing in Rawalpindi.
“It felt like I was playing in Rawalpindi. The way the crowd gave us mohabbat, it was amazing. Not just to me and the Pakistan team, but even to the Sri Lankan team. I had great fun. I say Rawalpindi in terms of atmosphere because the noise levels were like that. Lahore is a bit bigger, so you have a lot many more people. It felt like a home match for us,” Rizwan was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Earlier in the game, Sri Lanka posted a mammoth total of 344 after opting to bat first. Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis emerged as his side’s highest scorer with 122.
Pakistan failed to kick off their run chase on a positive note having lost two wickets in quick succession. It was Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique who eventually rescued Pakistan. Rizwan and Shafique stitched a spectacular partnership of 176 runs to earn a six-wicket win for Pakistan. The victory also marked the highest-ever successful run chase in the history of the ODI World Cup.
