Dhoni scored a brisk 30-ball 37 as Jharkhand thrashed Railways by 115 runs in a Vijay Hazare ODI tournament.

Alur, Karnataka India's limited-over captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni chipped in with a useful 30-ball 37 as Jharkhand thrashed Railways by 115 runs in their Vizay Hazare one-day cricket match in Alur, Karnataka, on Thursday.

Coming in at 122 for three in 33rd over, Dhoni stitched a 38-run partnership with top-scorer Saurabh Tiwary (49 off 66 balls) for the fourth wicket to help Jharkhand, who batted first, reach 211 for five in a 45-over-a-side match at the KSCA Cricket Ground.

Dhoni hit a four and two sixes in his knock. Captain Kumar Deobrat was the other notable contributor for Jharkhand with a 53-ball 38.

For Railways, Avinash Yadav grabbed two wickets for 44 runs while Anureet Singh, Karn Sharma and Ashish Yadav got one each.

Jharkhand's bowlers, led by left-arm spinner Sonu Singh, then bundled Railways out for 96 in just 37 overs.

Sonu returned impressive figures of four for 15 while Shahbaz Nadeem and Ankit Dabas grabbed two wickets apiece.

Of Railways' tally of 96, 44 came from Arindam Ghosh, while the next best was 11.

Delhi down Maharashtra by five wickets

In New Delhi, talented right-hander Milind Kumar successfully anchored a modest run-chase with an unbeaten 58 as Delhi beat Maharashtra by five wickets in a group C encounter on Thursday.

Delhi have 16 points from five matches with four victories to their credit and are currently third in the group behind Vidarbha (+1.426) and Baroda (+1.114), who are also on 16 points but enjoy a better net run rate than the hosts (+0.727).

Services have an easy ride

In Secunderabad, Diwesh Gurdev Pathania and Amit Pachhara shone with the ball and bat respectively before Rajat Paliwal's breezy half-century as Services posted an easy six-wicket win over Assam on Thursday.

Electing to bat in Group A match, Assam scored 261 for eight in the stipulated 50 overs, and then saw the opposition chase down the target of 262 with almost five overs to spare.

Amit top-scored for the winning team with an 88-ball 75, while opener Soumik Chatterjee made 73 off 91 balls at the Railways Recreation Club Ground.

Bhatia stars in Mumbai's win

In Hyderabad, Rajat Bhatia's unbeaten 94 eclipsed Ajinkya Rahane's strokeful 114 in Rajasthan's five-wicket win over Mumbai on Thursday.

Bhatia's blistering innings off 71 balls helped Rajasthan chase down 302-run target in 49 overs. Rahane, playing his second match of the domestic competition, steered Mumbai to 301 for nine.

Besides Bhatia's brilliant effort, Ashok Menaria came up with a 80-ball 86 to contribute to the team's cause. The other contributions came from Puneet Yadav (49) and Dishant Yagnik (40).

Uttar Pradesh ease past Goa

In Rajkot, star-studded Uttar Pradesh on Thursday trounced Goa by six wickets in a Group D match.

Uttar Pradesh, led by Suresh Raina and having a few national players, won the toss and put Goa in to bat.

UP bowlers bundled out Goa for 218 in 49.5 overs and then chased down the target in just 36.3 overs with just four wickets down at the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground.

With this victory, UP became the first team from Group D to enter the knock-out stage.

Yadav guides Vidarbha to win

In New Delhi, Pace spearhead Umesh Yadav led a supreme bowling charge as Vidarbha shot out Andhra Pradesh for 87 runs to win their Group C league match by 10 wickets on Thursday.

Electing to field at the Palam B Ground, Model Sports Complex, Vidarbha bowlers justified the think-tank's decision to pack the Andhra side in 25.3 overs.

Sharing the new ball with Umesh, left-arm pacer Shrikant Wagh trapped opener Koripalli Sreekanth for nought to start the batting rot.

Umesh soon joined in the party with three scalps as left-arm spinner Akshay Karnewar, who wiped off the tail in double quick time, managed to be the destroyer-in-chief.

Skipper Prasanth Kumar top-scored a valiant 38, but the rest of the batting fell like a pack of cards.

TN win as Agarwal's ton goes in vain

In Hyderabad, Hyderabad batsman Tanmay Agarwal's belligerent ton went in vain as the hosts went down against Tamil Nadu by three wickets in their Group A match on Thursday.

Put into bat, the Hanuma Vihari-led Hyderabad rode on Agarwal's 96-ball 105 to manage 230 all out in 49.2 overs.

Laxmipathy Balaji bagged three wickets, while Rajagopal Satish, skipper Ravichandran Ashwin and Vijay Shankar picked two wickets each.

Chasing a respectable score, the Tamil Nadu top and middle order made a concerted effort to help chase down the target in 47.5 overs.

Baba Aparajith top-scored with 55 runs as Murali Vijay contributed with a fighting 44, but most of the TN batsmen failed to convert their good starts into bigger scores.

Swapnil's five-four brings Tripura to knees

In New Delhi, a supreme bowling show by the bowlers, led by Swapnil Singh's five-wicket haul, helped Baroda skittle out Tripura for a paltry 58 runs and win their Group C match by six wickets in the Vijay Hazare One-day cricket tournament in New Delhi on Thursday.

Electing to bat at the Palam Air Force Ground, Tripura batting fell like a pack of cards against an inspired Baroda bowling.

If left-arm Swapnil led the charge, pace spearhead Irfan Pathan and his off-spinner brother Yusuf Pathan turned on the heat to make a mockery of the Tripura line-up. Only skipper Manisankar Murasingh (10) could muster a double-figure score as the highest-scorer remained the extras count (16).

Sharing the new ball with Irfan, Swapnil returned with figures of five for 25, while the pace spearhead (two for eight) and Yusuf (three for 24) shared five wickets between themselves.

In Rajkot, with Rajat Patidar, Harpreet Singh and Anand Singh scoring blistering half-centuries, Madhya Pradesh outplayed Bengal by five wickets in a Group D match.

Asked to bat first, Bengal made 262 but their bowlers failed to defend the total as Madhya Pradesh overcame the target in 46.5 overs.

Bengal got off to a flying start with openers Abhimanyu Eswaran (45) and Sayan Shekhar Mondal (88) adding 108 runs for the first wicket in 21 overs.

After this, Jalaj Saxena struck twice, removing India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha (18) and skipper Manoj Tiwary (3) in quick succession. Pankaj Shaw's run-a-ball 28 with one four and a six helped Bengal reach 262.
