Pakistan and Netherlands will face each other in their opening game of the World Cup. Pakistan had started 2023 strong as they remained the best-ranked ODI team for several months. They also recorded back-to-back series victories against New Zealand and Afghanistan. Their Asia Cup campaign, however, was far from spectacular as the team crashed out of the competition in the Super Four stage. Pakistan also competed in two warm-up games ahead of the World Cup but lost both of them. In their last match, Pakistani bowlers failed to stop the Australian batters from raining runs. It was Glenn Maxwell who smashed 77 runs, helping Australia to a total of 351. In the second innings, Babar Azam played a heroic knock of 90 runs in 59 balls but it just wasn’t enough to secure a win for Pakistan.
The ODI clash will be hosted at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on October 6. After taking the entire world by surprise, the Netherlands will be looking to continue their dream run against Pakistan. While the Asian giants will be a really difficult opponent to take down, we must not count the Dutch side out of this game. They already recorded a shocking victory against the West Indies in Zimbabwe during the qualifiers. The Netherlands will be eager to make new history in India as they focus on making the playoff stage.
