Voting in your local elections is the number one way to make sure that your voice is heard as a citizen. Many states have recently changed their registration processes, and they can seem a little confusing. If you live in Idaho and you’d like to register to vote, make sure you are over 18 years of age and then fill out a voter registration form to make sure you can vote in your next election.

Qualifying to Vote in Idaho

Be at least 18 years old. In order to vote, you have to be at least 18 years of age. If you are 17 but will be turning 18 before or on election day, you can register to vote within 30 days of your 18th birthday.

Live in Idaho for at least 30 days before an election. To vote in Idaho, you need to be a resident for at least 1 month before an election day. You will be asked to provide your address on the registration form to prove that you are a resident of the state.Tip: If you are homeless and do not have a residential address but you live in the state of Idaho, you can describe your location by cross streets or other landmarks.

Be a United States citizen. To vote in the United States, you must be a citizen. You will be asked to provide the last 4 digits of your social security number on your voter registration form. If you are a convicted felon, you can vote once you have completed any sentences, including probation or parole.

Filling out a Voter Registration Form

Visit the Idaho Secretary of State website to register online with an ID. To register online to vote in Idaho, you have to have a valid Idaho Driver’s License or Identification Card. You will be asked to provide your full name, date of birth, ID card number, and address. Visit the Idaho Secretary of State website by clicking this link: https://apps.idahovotes.gov/OnlineVoterRegistration You will be mailed your voter ID card within 5 to 7 weeks.

Mail in a voter registration form if you don’t have an ID. Fill out a voter registration form on paper and mail it in to register without an Idaho ID. You will still be asked to provide the last 4 digits of your social security number as well as your Idaho address.Tip: Make sure that your voter registration form is postmarked at least 25 days before election day. Deliver the voter registration form in person to a County Clerk’s Office. You can hand deliver your voter registration form to a County Clerk’s Office near you. Idaho has almost 50 County Clerk’s Offices. Check the back of your voter registration form to find one in your county.
